Is a Jowl Lift What You’ve Been Looking for?

Jowl Lift

A jowl lift is a procedure that raises the sagging areas around a person’s lower jaw and chin to create or restore pleasing proportions to facial features. We at Sule Plastic Surgery perform several procedures as part of a jowl lift, including neck or submental liposuction and various surgical chin procedures.

A well-defined neck, jawline, and chin give balance to the face, which impacts the way a person’s profile looks and how streamlined it is. If sagging jowls are troubling you, chin surgery and/or neck liposuction as part of a jowl lift might provide the remedy you’ve been searching for.

What Is a Jowl Lift?

Generally speaking, a jowl lift provides a lifted look to the cheeks and lower face. Jowl lift surgery is minimally invasive. It smooths folds in the skin of the neck while also diminishing the appearance of marionette lines. The procedure adds a tighter contour to a person’s jawline as well.

We can use advanced techniques to tighten the skin throughout the jowl area after removing fat and sculpting facial curves and lines. The end result is a smoother, more taut appearance throughout the lower face and neck. There’s minimal downtime required afterward.

Is Jowl Lift Surgery a Solution for Your Skin Concerns?

A jowl lift, also called a jowl facelift, is often an ideal solution for people who have sagging jowls — excess skin in the cheeks, jaws, and neck.

The procedure is also helpful for those who have double chins or marionette lines. Marionette lines are the vertical skin folds that develop with age and trail from the corners of the mouth down to the sides of the chin.

We often reduce double chins and remove excess fat during a jowl facelift with neck liposuction, which restores the natural contours of the lower face. The excess fat that’s removed can be used elsewhere on the face to fill in lines and wrinkles or to add volume and definition to the cheeks.

What to Expect: Jowl Lift Procedures and Results

A jowl lift effectively gives definition to the cheeks and highlights the jawline. Patients enjoy a diminished neck groove and reduced facial fold lines, which gives the face a more youthful, firmer, and thinner appearance.

The results are transformative and last for years. A single jowl facelift can turn back the clock about a decade and produce results that last just as long.

The timeframe for completing the procedure varies depending on the specific areas that you want to treat. The average time to complete a simple, basic jowl lift is about 30 to 40 minutes.

A jowl lift is extremely effective, and it does not affect the underlying blood vessels, facial nerves, muscles, or bones in any way, so it’s safe and appropriate for a wide range of patients. Two of the most common jowl lift procedures are chin surgery and neck liposuction.

Jowl Lifts: Chin Surgery

Chin augmentation is a common procedure for people who have “weak” chins. We can build up a receding chin with prosthetic material (a chin implant), or conversely, reduce an overly prominent chin.

Another common way we can perform chin augmentation is through submental liposuction. In this procedure, we remove excess fat surrounding the chin.

Whether a person has chin surgery as part of a jowl lift to build up their chin or to reduce it, we make incisions under the chin or in the mouth. Either way, once healed, the incisions are not visible.

Jowl Facelifts: Neck or Submental Liposuction

A second common procedure that we can perform when correcting sagging jowls is fat reduction through liposuction. This treatment corrects a double chin while reducing neck and submental fat. Excess fat under the chin and on the neck can cause a person to look out of shape, overweight, and older than they actually are.

During this procedure, we make tiny incisions hidden under the chin. Then, using a very small cannula (tube), we remove excess fat cells from the treatment area. After that, we carefully close up the small incisions in a way that ensures minimal to no scarring.

We can perform neck or submental liposuction in our office in about 30 minutes. Once fat cells have been removed, they are gone for good. However, it’s important to eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise because weight gain after the procedure can cause new fat cells to expand in the area.

Is Jowl Lift Surgery Right for You?

As people age, it’s inevitable that the face will lose some of its elasticity. The effects of gravity, long-term exposure to the sun, and certain lifestyle habits can accelerate aging on delicate facial skin.

The skin may start to sag and droop over the face and neck, forehead lines may appear and become deep folds, and crow’s feet can take hold around the eyes.

There are numerous treatments, procedures, and solutions available that can go a long way in reversing these signs of aging, including sagging skin and excess fat in the neck and chin.

If you are interested in any of these treatments, or you’re not sure which treatment would be the best one(s) to achieve your skin goals, please call our office.

We’ll be happy to schedule an initial consultation with you, during which time you can meet the doctor. We’ll learn about you and your aesthetic concerns and explore which procedures, including jowl lift surgery, might suit your needs best.
