Mohs Reconstruction: All thing you need to know about this procedure

mohs reconstruction, Mohs Reconstruction: All thing you need to know about this procedure

Constant sun exposure over time for both young and older patients can potentially lead to the development of harmful forms of skin cancer. Areas of of the face, head, and neck that are constantly exposed to the sun, are especially vulnerable to the development of skin cancer. When skin cancer occurs in these areas, it is essential to get it removed as soon as possible to prevent it from spreading. However, when removing cancer spots,  ensuring minimal scarring is also important. Because each region of the face, head, and neck presents its own challenging and unique anatomy, Dr. Sule’s extensive knowledge and expertise in facial reconstructive surgery is vital for achieving the best results for patients in the Dallas area.

What is Mohs Reconstruction in Dallas?

While removing skin cancer is the primary concern, proper reconstruction of the treated area is also essential. Throughout treatment, Dr. Sule works with several dermatologists who perform the initial Mohs surgery. Following the removal of skin cancer, and making sure that all the cancer has been removed, Mohs reconstruction can be performed to repair the wound and minimize scarring. Mohs reconstruction is a refined technique that takes into consideration the tumor size, depth of roots, and location, for a customized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

What to Expect

Through an initial one-on-one consultation, Dr. Sule extensive knowledge and expertise in facial reconstructive surgery is implemented to determine the best reconstruction surgery option for you. Factors that determine the appropriate Mohs reconstruction method selection include:

Small wounds

Small or simple wounds may be able to heal on their own. This process is known as secondary intention healing.

Slightly larger wounds

These wounds may need to be treated with stitches using a standard side-to-side method.

Larger wounds

Larger or more complicated wounds may require a skin graft- in which skin is taken from another area of the body and relocated- to minimize scars and achieve the best possible cosmetic result.

Dr. Sule works with several dermatologists who perform the initial Mohs surgery. Afterwards, Dr. Sule will go over the possible treatment options for you.
