In 1951, after attending a ball in the Rainbow Room of the Waldorf-Astoria benefiting children’s charities, Dallasite Nancy Ann Smith came home inspired and gathered 18 like-mindedwomen who became the founders of the Crystal Charity Ball. The first year, The Crystal Charity Ball raised funds for the Dallas Polio Chapter later to become the March of Dimes. After theirimmediate success, The Crystal Charity Ball benefited two organizations the following year, the National Association for Mental Health and the Children’s Development Center. Within a short period of time, the Ballbecame a much-loved tradition and celebration for philanthropic individuals and companies to end the year on a festive and meaningful note. – Read Full Story
