What Nose Shapes Can a Rhinoplasty Improve?

What Nose Shapes Can a Rhinoplasty Improve? - Facial Plastic Surgery

While every face is beautiful because of the unique features that set it apart, sometimes features such as a large dorsal hump or a crooked nose can cause people to be unhappy with their appearance. Rhinoplasty can make the face more balanced and lead to greater confidence in many of our patients.

At Sule Plastic Surgery, we focus on procedures that make our patients feel confident even when they are in the spotlight. If rhinoplasty is something you have considered because of the shape or size of your nose, we can help you to know what to expect from the surgery.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that is often referred to as a “nose job.” During this procedure, portions of the bone and cartilage may be removed and the nose may be straightened out or reshaped based on what the patient wants. Many different concerns can be addressed with a rhinoplasty including large or bulbous nose shapes, crooked noses from injury, plunging nose tips, and much more.

When Is Rhinoplasty Indicated?

Rhinoplasty surgery is indicated for individuals who are self-conscious about their nose shape or size. We have many patients who are tired of unsolicited comments or stares from strangers or who simply want to feel more confident in front of a camera.

Rhinoplasty can also be indicated for individuals who have small passages in the nose or have breathing difficulties because of their nose shape. In many cases, functional problems and cosmetic concerns can be addressed during the same surgery.

What Are the Different Types of Rhinoplasty?

Closed Rhinoplasty

A closed rhinoplasty is a good option for situations where avoiding visible incisions is a primary objective. During a closed procedure, the incision is made on the inside of the nostril. With this type of nose job, no scars will be visible once healing takes place. This type of procedure can be more difficult but with the right surgeon can be very rewarding. Many rhinoplasties can be performed with this type of surgery.

Open Rhinoplasty

In some cases, it is necessary to have a better visual of the surgery area to be able to achieve the desired result. For some rhinoplasty procedures, we use an open rhinoplasty technique. Using this method, a small incision will also be made in an inconspicuous location between the nostrils. The skin can be raised so that the surgery area can be viewed and then the skin is replaced at the end of the surgery.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty is a complex procedure that involves correcting a previous rhinoplasty. If you have had a nose job that you were not happy with or if there are complications after your previous surgery, we can correct them with a revision rhinoplasty. Common revisions include correcting a nose job that was underdone, which is an easier surgery, or restoring material to a nose that was overcorrected. While a more difficult procedure, this type of revision is still possible.

What Different Nose Shapes Can Rhinoplasty Help Correct?

Bulbous Nose Job

If you have a nose that has an enlarged tip that seems out of proportion to the rest of your nose and face, this type of nose shape can be corrected with a rhinoplasty. The tip of the nose can be refined by removing cartilage.

Crooked Nose

Whether you have a naturally crooked nose or your nose has suffered trauma, a nose job can be one way to straighten out your nose. Cartilage grafts, cartilage and bone repositioning, and more can be used to fix a crooked nose.

Wide Nasal Bridge

If the bridge of the nose is too wide, portions of the bone can be removed to achieve a more slender and shapely nose. Making the nasal bridge slimmer can help balance the face.

Large Nasal Hump

Many of our patients are concerned about a large nasal hump. We can perform dorsal hump removal surgery to give the nose a straighter shape and a thinner profile.

Nose Tip Placement

If you have a nose with a tip that either plunges downward or is turned upward and you are unhappy with the shape, this can be resolved using rhinoplasty surgery. Cartilage can be placed to better support a plunging nose tip. Changes can also be made to resolve an upward-turned nose.

Deviated Septum

A deviated septum is when the nasal septum is placed to one side rather than being straight, it can cause congestion, nosebleeds, difficulty breathing through the nose, and a crooked nose. At our clinic, we can fix a deviated septum. Generally, this procedure can be performed using the closed rhinoplasty technique.

Considering Ethnic Differences With Your Rhinoplasty

Beauty standards are not the same across cultures. That is why we do not limit our patients based on caucasian beauty standards. With our procedures, it is important for us to take into account your facial shape, your aesthetic goals, and what would look the most harmonious with your other features. We offer Asian rhinoplasty and other ethnic rhinoplasty services to help serve your specific needs.
